Charming, Texas – Present Day After a divorce she didn’t want, Amy Holloway is starting afresh in a new home with her twins, Naomi and David. While unpacking the moving truck and struggling with a box that is too big for her, a man comes rushing out of the house next door to help. It’s her high school sweetheart, Declan Sheridan. Amy didn’t realize she’d moved next door to Dec! Things hadn’t ended amicably between them when they graduated, so she isn’t happy to see him. She wanted to marry him, and he wanted to continue to pursue a baseball career. Things are awkward at first, though Dec is nice and feels the past should stay in the past. It soon turns out that Dec is not only helpful, but he is as charming as ever. Surely Amy isn’t falling for him again? Just imagine if your ex-boyfriend turns out to be your new next-door neighbor. That is what happens to Amy in THE EX NEXT DOOR. She had loved him, but that love wasn’t enough to save their relationship. She moved on and found love with Rob, whom she married and had twins with. Then Rob wanted a divorce, and Amy felt like a failure. Things are so-so between Amy and Dec at first. However, he is soon helping her out with David and having her son switch from soccer to playing baseball. Amy even finds a job working at the same bar as Dec. So, whenever she turns, there is Dec. You can see why they are developing feelings for each other. Meanwhile, David is having problems adjusting to the divorce. Will that cause problems between Amy and Dec? While baseball didn’t work out for Dec, he did go into teaching—until a parent nearly caused a mass shooting event at the Houston school where he taught. Not every parent agrees with their child’s grade, but it shouldn’t have come to this. Family and friends have been encouraging Dec to get back into teaching, but he has PTSD. Will he finally get the nerve to take the step of returning to that profession? He hates that he hurt Amy years ago but wants to be friends with her. However, friendship soon turns to romance. Can they rekindle their relationship into a forever love? Amy and Dec have a lot of navigating they need to do in THE EX NEXT DOOR. While they might have serious feelings for each other, they have to consider those of her children. Can they find a way to make everyone happy? Find out the answer by picking up a copy of THE EX NEXT DOOR. Patti Fischer |
