Charleston, South Carolina – Present Day

It's hard for events planner Kara Kincaid to help her sister Laurel plan her upcoming marriage to family friend (and now billionaire) Eli Houghton because Kara herself has had a crush on him since childhood. But when Laurel suddenly breaks the engagement, Eli turns to Kara for support…or is it more? Kara feels guilty about lusting after her sister's now ex, but with him wooing and wining her, what's she to do? Turn down the one chance she may ever have at being with him?

Eli has always enjoyed Kara's company, but when he decided it was time to marry, it was her sister he started pursuing because he felt as if she would be the right match. Yet it is Kara who revs up his hormones and makes him enjoy life. Laurel 's breaking off their engagement is actually a relief to him, because now he can go after the woman who really makes him feel whole: Kara. First he has to convince her that they're not cheating on her sister, and one way to do this is to whisk Kara away from Charleston for a romantic trip…alone. Will Eli win Kara's heart and make their dreams come true?

Kara gets a chance to experience bliss with Eli in ON THE VERGE OF I DO. After years of pining away for Eli and despairing that he'd ever look her way, Kara is nearly devastated when he becomes engaged to Laurel . While Kara senses there is something not right about Laurel 's lack of interest in wedding planning, she's still blindsided when her sister calls it off. Kara tries to soften the blow for Eli, yet he doesn't appear unhappy. Instead, he turns his attention on her. Kara adds up the pros and cons of getting involved with Eli, and when the pluses outweigh the negatives—at least for the moment—she doesn't hesitate about giving into his seduction. But is this only a temporary fling—with a chance that their lifelong friendship will go down the drain?

Being around Kara just feels right for Eli. A chance to win her heart—and her hand—is his agenda as they enjoy the romantic surroundings of Seabrook Island at his hotel resort. Of course, he waves in front of her the opportunity of being in charge of event planning at his resort, but the main focus will be on his seduction of Kara. Their chemistry is not only perfect in ON THE VERGE OF I DO, but there several funny moments between them. Heidi Betts has penned a truly enjoyable tale of friends to lovers ON THE VERGE OF I DO that makes it a book hard to put down.

While the Kincaid family remains focused on who killed their father in the Dynasties: the Kincaids series, most of the action regarding the murder takes place off the pages of ON THE VERGE OF I DO. But as the series grows closer to the last book, readers like myself are wondering if the real killer will ever be found.

ON THE VERGE OF I DO is a fantastic read that I highly recommend. If you love friends to lovers' tales as much as I do, then you'll enjoy this one. Pick it up before it disappears from the bookshelves.
