England – 1818

General Mark Grimaldi has the opportunity of a lifetime presented to him. After years in the military, he has been offered an amazing promotion. Being the Home Secretary comes with one big requirement – Mark must be married. The thing is, he does have a wife. It's just that he hasn't seen her in ten years, and no one around him knows about her. Mark knows what he must do, despite not wanting to actually be married. He heads to France to reunite with the wife he never thought he'd see again.

Nicole Grimaldi has led a quiet life away from England, and away from her husband. Their break-up shortly after their marriage was hurtful and shocking, but Nicole has surrounded herself with friends and is stunned when Mark suddenly appears. His story is understandable, but to Nicole, there is only one reason to reconcile, and then it need be just a temporary one once she accomplishes her goal.

Both Mark and Nicole come from similar backgrounds, although that is basically what led to their estrangement. Now they must somehow put that episode behind them. At one point Nicole worked secretly for the Bow Runners, and Mark's association with them has drawn them into a mystery. How did Mark's cousin, a strapping, healthy young man, suddenly die at a dinner party held in his home? And how does this death affect Mark's future?

A DUKE LIKE NO OTHER is a unique premise with interesting and well-rounded characters. Mark would just as soon remain single, and Nicole would love to continue being an independent woman. But they must team up to discover what happened to Mark's cousin, and there are extenuating circumstances that will greatly affect Mark's future.

An enjoyable read, A DUKE LIKE NO OTHER was nicely written and had characters from previous novels in The Playful Brides series.
