Scottish Highlands - Present Day

Mirren Sutherland has what she feels is a great career as a hunter of antique books. She's already found one that has gained her some notoriety, but now she's been hired by a Scottish laird to search his crumbling estate. It seems family legend has it that there is a book hidden somewhere that is so valuable it can help rescue the land from destruction. The laird, Jamie McPherson, is struggling to keep the estate even though the entire structure is literally falling apart.

On the train north from London, Mirren is upset to find out that another book hunter, rival and ex- boyfriend Theo Palliser, is on board and also headed to the laird's home. She is well aware that he has the same drive that she has, and she's not going to let him win.

Mirren and Theo have barely settled into the sadly cold and crumbling mansion when a blizzard hits the area, and they are literally housebound. With the help of local and family helper, Bonnie, Jamie tries to keep the book hunters on track, but the thousands of books collected by his grandfather over the years are overwhelming. Practically every corner of the huge house is stuffed with books of all kinds. Jamie's eccentric late grandfather's clues he left behind are confusing, and complicated. Just what was he trying to say to Jamie?

THE SECRET CHRISTMAS LIBRARY is another of Jenny Colgan's stories from the heart. The history and mystery of Jamie's grandfather's life, and his love of books, are both heartwarming and sad. What will the group find, and will they be able to decipher the old man's clues?
