Historical Romance

London, England - Early 1800's

Arran MacLawry has left the Scottish Highlands to see what has happened to his brother, the leader of the MacLawry clan, who is actually thinking of marrying an English miss and not a good Highlands girl.  While becoming accustomed to Ranulf, the Marquis of Glengask being with Lady Charlotte, Arran has promised to be on his good behavior at a masked ball.  Nothing in clan life is more important than making alliances, and Ranulf wants the Stewarts on their side, and Arran marrying Deidre Stewart would cement the agreement.  All Ranulf asks is for Arran to stay far away from Clan Campbell, their dreaded enemies.

As luck would have it, Arran has the mask of a fox, and Mary Campbell is at the ball dressed as a vixen.  Being new to town, when Arran grabs Mary for a dance to escape his younger sister's friend, he is immediately drawn to the vixen with the sharp tongue and doesn't realize she is a dreaded Campbell.  She not only is a Campbell, but the granddaughter of the Chief of the Clan.  Mary knows what clan Arran is with, but ignores the inner voices and enjoys their dance, and runs into him the next couple of days.  Mary is also being used to cement an alliance with another clan, and both clans would have a fit if they knew a Campbell was meeting with a MacLawry.  Surely the world would end!

Mary and Arran keep meeting, and soon they must decide what to do, and just as Arran starts to accept his fate, he learns Mary is being sent away, and with a note she lets him know she does not wish to go.  The steps Arran takes could mean he is not allowed back in his Clan, and also Mary must decide if a broken relationship with her parents and grandfather and her Clan is worth what she is about to do.

Suzanne Enoch once again introduces us to the irrepressible MacLawry Clan and their enemies from years ago; no one is really sure quite why, but it was bound to be the other clan's fault.  Arran and Mary both ride the thin line of getting to know each other and getting banished from ever seeing each other again, they both know what is expected of them.  Arran at first can't figure out why Ranulf can get married to someone not from the Highlands, and yet also say he can't have a relationship with a Campbell.  Mary tries to keep away from Arran, but there is no one who interests her like he does.

Secondary characters are all the members of each Clan, and especially Peter, and man who rents hacks in London and ends up in the adventure of a lifetime.

ROGUE WITH A BROGUE is a serious, yet high spirited story of two people whose families are determined they cannot marry, and if they do they risk exile from their respective Clans.  Set in London and on the run to Scotland, ROGUE WITH A BROGUE will take you on a whirlwind journey with two very different people.  This is book two in The Scandalous Highlanders series, and is a passionate story about confronting family and family responsibilities.
