Half-fae, half-were Hedi Peacock (now Trowbridge) is in a pickle. There are a lot of people after her for various reasons, including witches, other weres, and even bikers. She and her husband, Robson Trowbridge, are working together to get through the Gates of Merenwyn to rescue Hedi's twin brother, Lexi, who is being held by the Old Mage. But everything they do seems to end in disaster.

Trowbridge hires a couple of witches to put a magical ward around their property. But even that goes awry when the witches do things more their way and cause even more problems. A biker gang appears and tries to kidnap Hedi and to get Trowbridge out of the picture. And every time Hedi tries to sleep, she dreams vivid dreams of her brother.

THE PROBLEM WITH PROMISES is the third book in the Mystwalker series. Unfortunately, while I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the premise, I have not read the first two books. It is, therefore, unfair to the author to presume that I know what happened previously. I highly recommend that readers should begin by reading the first two books, THE TROUBLE WITH FATE and THE THING ABOUT WERES, in order to understand Hedi's relationship with not only her brother, but Trowbridge, not to mention all of the details about faes, weres, witches, and others involved with Hedi. I did enjoy the modern day humor, and the storyline about rescuing Hedi's twin. This is an intriguing series that deserves to be read from the start.
