Royal, Texas – Present Day

Attorney Alexandra Lattimore is visiting her family for a month in Royal to help them with a lawsuit that threatens their livelihood and the potential split of their land and that of a neighbor’s. Her mother ropes her into a charity event at the Texas Cattleman’s Club and Alexa attends reluctantly. But while she’s trying to blend into the background, she encounters an old high school nemesis, Jackson Strom. They were rivals in school, with Alexa always coming out on top. But Jack is now grown up and dripping in sex appeal. Of course, he tempts her. Should she take the bait and engage in a little fling while she’s here?

Jack was always attracted to Alexa, but she gave off “do not touch” vibes. She was driven to succeed and come in first, which has led her to a stellar career as an attorney. However, her latest employment is turning out to be difficult as she is dealing with sexual harassment. Her family’s crisis was good timing for her to take time off work. It allows her to work the case and try to question her grandfather, who has dementia. Will she get to the bottom of the situation? Is her family doomed to lose some of their land—and wealth?

Alexa and Jack start things slow in RIVALRY AT PLAY, the latest book in the Texas Cattleman’s Club: Ranchers and Rivals. She still thinks of Jack as the jerk she knew from high school as he relentlessly teased and tormented her. But Alexa must admit that he is much different now. Jack is considerate and will do anything for her, even inviting her to spend a few days with him at his family’s cabin. Once there, will their budding friendship turn into something that has them spending time in bed? What happens when Alexa must return to Miami at the request of her employer? Is her job in jeopardy? Jack is a do-gooder, but will he overstep when he decides to help Alexa? She is fiercely independent and may not want his help,

While part of the Texas Cattleman’s Club series, RIVALRY AT PLAY can easily be read as a standalone as the running plot for the series is pretty much in the background, though readers will wonder if the lawsuit regarding who owns the disputed land has any merits. This tale is mostly about the romance brewing between our couple.

A sizzling tale that turns former rivals into lovers, RIVALRY AT PLAY is fun and enjoyable. Readers will fall in love with Alexa and Jack and want them to find happiness together. Will that happen? Pick this tale up to find out the answer.
