The Present in Charm, Ohio

It's August, and the town is coming back to normal after the fire at the Kinsinger Lumber Mill last December . . . at least for those who didn't lose a family member. The Kinsinger family lost their father as did the Kurtz family. The eldest Kinsinger son took over the running of the mill and has since married Darla, the eldest Kurtz daughter. They live in the Kinsinger family home with the two Kinsinger sisters, Rebecca and Amelia. (Brother Levi left to find some relief from his grief.)

Rebecca is very busy as receptionist for the mill, a large outfit and the main employer in town. Her dream has always been to become a teacher, so she volunteers some hours at the Charm school helping the teacher, Rachel Mast, with the twenty-five students aged five to fourteen. She begins to wonder if she's really cut out for the job.

A new student is brought to school by her uncle, both new to town. Lily Yoder, thirteen, recently lost her parents in a road accident, so her Uncle Jacob left Florida where he was a carpenter and brought her to Charm and his parents' farm. Is he cut out to be a farmer?

These are just a few of the wonderful people whom you'll come to know and love in this delightful novel. Watch them as they and their relationships evolve. If I could use just one word to describe A DAUGHTER'S DREAM, it would be sweet. Not the overly saccharine, honey dripping kind of sweetness or the bland kind with no challenges to be met, but the kind that is just right to leave a reader smiling in satisfaction.

The tale of the fire is told in last February's A SON'S VOW. Both books have interesting author's notes about Charm, Ohio, a real place, and sneak peeks at the next book in line. It's a wonderful series; don't miss it.
