Contemporary Series Romance Whispering Canyon, Wyoming – Present Day Everyone in town knows there is bad blood between the Leonard and Chandler families after Tess Barrett’s grandmother, Tallulah Leonard, had an affair with the married Raylan Chandler, and it produced a son. One day, Raylan is mysteriously shot while out riding, and the whole Chandler family descends on the hospital where he’s being treated. Holt Chandler is naturally worried about his grandfather, but he becomes distracted when he meets Tess, who is the physical therapist. He immediately wants to go out with her but doesn’t make the connection that she is the granddaughter of Tallulah. Tess is very upfront about the family history (she is not related to Holt because Tallulah had two more children). Later that night, Tess and Holt encounter each other at a bar, and the sparks continue to fly. They can’t help but give in to the attraction and find the nearest hotel. Holt wants to continue to see Tess, but she refuses because of their family history. Weeks later, she discovers she is pregnant from their one-night stand. He wants marriage, but she can’t see marrying him because he comes from a wealthy family, while she is barely scraping by. People will think she went after him with dollar signs in her eyes. THE RANCHER’S TEMPTATION is the first book in a new series, which means we spend some time getting to know the people of Whispering Canyon, especially the Chandler family, headed by Raylan Chandler and his wife, Eleanor. Tess’s grandmother is the town pariah. The woman might now be in her eighties, but many years ago, she was an alcoholic and had affairs with many men, including Raylan. This hasn’t changed how the Chandlers feel about her or her offspring. Later on, we learn even more details about the family feud. Despite Whispering Canyon being a small town, Tess and Holt have not encountered each other until they are at the hospital, though she is aware of who he is. Their instant attraction causes sparks to fly. He is smitten, though he doesn’t think he is in love with her. She is more cautious, though the lack of a condom wasn’t noticed when they made love. Now that there is a baby on the way, Tess wants to raise it on her own, while Holt wants to get married right away. Who will win the battle? Throughout this tale, there is a continuing investigation into the shooting. It quickly becomes apparent there is more to the shooting than it being an accident. Will it be resolved by the end of this tale? Attraction at first sight is the name of the game in THE RANCHER’S TEMPTATION. Will it lead to love and a happily-ever-after? Find out by grabbing a copy today. Patti Fischer |
