Denver, Colorado – Present Day

Sheriff Pete Higgins needs a live-in nanny for his toddler niece as his current one will be out of town for several weeks due to a family emergency. It is suggested to Pete that he hire Myra Hollister, who is in town for a few weeks and is highly qualified. The moment Pete meets Myra, he realizes that having her work for him would be a bad idea, as she is a beautiful, desirable woman. But with no other choices available on short notice, he reluctantly hires her, thinking that he can just try and avoid being around her as much as he can. Unfortunately, that plan doesn't work out…

Myra is hiding out in Colorado until she turns twenty-five in a few weeks until she can finally claim the company left to her by her late parents. Her controlling half-brother, who is currently running the company, has been pushing men to woo her in hopes that she would marry one of them and then turn over the company to him. Myra has been in Colorado living under the radar until it's safe to leave. Temporarily working for Pete works out well for her, especially since she loves children. She is aware that Pete is handsome and desirable, but she will do whatever it takes to keep their interactions businesslike. However, the attraction between them is hard to ignore…

Pete and Myra are unexpectedly pushed together in DUTY OR DESIRE, and it may lead to something neither expects. Pete got custody of his baby niece, Ciara, after his brother and sister-in-law died in an accident and the maternal grandparents could no longer watch the little girl. He has had an older woman live in as the nanny, and it's worked out well, but the woman plans to be away for several weeks and Pete can't just take unplanned leave from his job. Having Myra as the caregiver should be perfect, yet he knows that if they're under the same roof the attraction he has for her might lead to “complications” that he doesn't want. Namely, falling in love. Pete once loved a woman, but after her death, he swore off love. Will Myra end up changing his mind?

Myra soon grows to care for Ciara—and Pete. Despite Pete's plan to avoid being around Myra except as necessary, they soon are spending time together—and falling in love. Will this change her plans to leave after she turns twenty-five? Myra doesn't confide to Pete about her issues with her half-brother. Will this lead to an unexpected problem? While DUTY OR DESIRE is part of Brenda Jackson's Westmoreland series, and you get to see and catch up with many of the prior characters, this can easily be read as a standalone.

Myra and Pete come together for the sake of a child and fall in love. Readers who read DUTY OR DESIRE will soon be rooting for them to find happiness together. Be sure to grab a copy today.
