| England & Italy – Present Day Five years ago, Alaina Ashcroft was working at a resort in the Caribbean when she met wealthy attorney Rafaello Ranieri. She hasn’t seen him since! Rafaello’s mother may have loved his father too much, but the man didn’t love his wife. This left them with a tortured marriage which left scars on their young son. His mother is now dead, but was it due to an accidental drug interaction gone awry, or was it deliberate? For these reasons, Rafaello can’t afford to give his heart to a woman for fear she will break it. He does, however, love Joey unconditionally. But can he love Alaina, even though they get along well—both in and out of bed? Rafello doesn’t think so. There is a lot of awkwardness between Alaina and Rafaello in THE HEIR SHE KEPT FROM THE BILLIONAIRE. Yes, they had a fiery affair five years ago but being married is different. He tries to keep their relationship almost businesslike. He provides for Alaina and Joey’s needs and spends time with them, but he is wary of her. Meanwhile, she longs for a real marriage, one where the husband says, “I love you” and kisses are real. How long will Alaina put up with this sham marriage before she is brokenhearted? Readers will feel the chasm between Alaina and Rafaell, even as they realize the pain of watching their parents’ marriages crumble and become meaningless.
