Henry Adams, Kansas – Present Day Tamar July has lived all her life in the town of Henry Adams. It is where she was publicly humiliated after finding out her then fiancé was already married. She gave birth to the child she was carrying and raised Malachi without him ever knowing his father. Now in her nineties, she’s having haunting dreams about that day, and she wonders if she is being sent a message. When her son’s half-brother shows up, Tamar chases him off with a shotgun. She wants nothing to do with that part of the family. But is she making a mistake? Teenager Devon July thinks he is more popular than anyone else at the school he attends. He is part of a band led by Zoey and believes that he should be the headline lead. After telling Zoey that the band name should have his name in it, she kicks Devon out of the band. He attempts to start his own band but can’t find anyone. He does, however, befriend a lonely schoolmate, Ellis. Devon wants to make amends with Zoey. Will he succeed and be let back into the band? Meanwhile, the town is preparing a celebration on August 1st. Honoring Tamar will be part of it, but it has to be kept a secret from her. As the townspeople get together and start the planning process, a few hiccups occur. Not the least of which is Riley Curry, who wants to honor his late pig. The mayor, Bernadine Brown, has her hands full. Will the celebration go off without a hitch? CALLING ALL BLESSINGS is full of family and friends, along with a big dose of celebrating each other. I only mentioned a few people above, because there are many more, which is mostly told from their perspective. But the heart of this tale is Tamar July. She has lived a long and prosperous life. She brings joy to many lives, even though being humiliated at the wedding altar is legendary in town lore. This is reportedly the final book in the Blessings series, and not having read the others, I easily fell in step with the characters despite not knowing a lot about their history. As you read this tale, you will fall in love with many of the characters. Devon is on a journey of discovery as he finds out that he doesn’t always need to be the center of attention. At the end of the day, it is all about harmony and getting along with each other. The storylines do flit around a bit in CALLING ALL BLESSINGS, but it was easy to follow along. If you love a tale that leaves you feeling warm and gooey inside, then this is the one to read. It was a blessing for me to read, and I suspect you will feel the same. Don’t miss CALLING ALL BLESSINGS. Patti Fischer |
