London & New York City – Present Day Lanie Turner has an incomplete life. She hasn’t completed her PhD, she has a job she is lukewarm about, and a crush on her childhood friend—who happens to now be engaged to Lanie’s cousin. She is headed on a plane to London for a reunion with her family and her seatmate happens to not only be annoying, but handsome. After trying to get her point across to him that he is a pain in the rear, she soon discovers that he is charming. By the time the plane lands, she finds out his name is Dr. Ridley Aronsen. Lanie figures she will never see him again, yet on her return flight, there he is on the same flight. It is all a coincidence, but it leads them to start chatting as they are becoming friends. Over the course of several months in FREQUENT FLIERS, Lanie and Ridley run into each other, to where they finally exchange the dates when they will be flying. She learns that he is a widowed father of a teenager and that he does medical research, which requires him to work between London (where he lives) and New York City. Lanie has been roped in by her cousin, Gemma, and her fiancé, Jonah, to be their maid of honor/best person. Lanie is also helping to plan the wedding and is coerced by Gemma to be present at things such as choosing the cake. Meanwhile, she feels some resentment because the thing between her and Jonah never went beyond one night in bed together. But maybe it turns out to be fate since Ridley seems to be the kind of guy who really excites her. Ridley is in a tenuous position with his daughter, Beatrix. He is not really her father but has raised her since her birth. Hovering in the background is Beatrix’s real father, who basically gave up his rights before she was born. But the man now wants to fight Ridley for custody. He is also dealing with issues in his research, which is why he has to keep flying to New York City. The one bright spot in his life (besides Beatrix) is seeing Lanie. They get along but he must be careful because this is the first time he has dated anyone since he lost his wife. How will Beatrix react to a woman in his life? FREQUENT FLIERS is filled with emotion as Lanie and Ridley navigate their rocky relationship. It starts out slowly, but it’s clear they are attracted to each other. Even as they deny to their family and friends that there is something more going on between them, the harder it is to stay apart. Things will finally come to a head late in this tale, which means someone is going to get hurt. Will they work things out? Ridley’s home is in London while Lanie lives in New York City. Will she get a chance to complete her life finally? Will they find that elusive happily ever after by the end of FREQUENT FLIERS? Pick up a copy to find out. Patti Fischer |
