Short Story

Magnolia, North Carolina – Present Day

Dance instructor Josie Trumbull once had dreams of stardom as a ballet dancer, but an injury ended those dreams. Now settled down in Magnolia, she teaches children how to dance. Josie has supportive friends, which includes the bookstore proprietor next door, Stuart Madison. He’s had a crush on Josie for years, though she doesn’t see herself as beautiful or dateable due to her forty-something age. When Stuart is pushed by Josie’s friends to let her know that he is attracted to her, he approaches her, only to be rebuffed. How can he convince her that she is someone any man would love?

SPRINGTIME IN CAROLINA is a short tale in The Carolina Girls series, which has focused on the three women connected to the Wildflower Inn. We now get to know Josie and Stuart, knowing that they are attracted to each other. Josie has a terrible view of herself and feels like a broken woman. For this reason, she has put up a wall around her heart and refuses to date. Stuart isn’t the pushy type, though when their friends encourage him to stake his claim on Josie, he follows through. But getting her to date him and win her heart will be a tough battle.

The story is a winner for readers as the characters have been long-time friends. How Stuart breaks down Josie’s wall makes for a compelling tale. Don’t miss SPRINGTIME IN CAROLINA.
