Royal, Texas – Present Day

Layla Grandin’s beloved grandfather has died and at the funeral, her father conspires with a rancher friend to force Layla to go to a concert with the rancher’s son. There are two sons—twins—and Layla once had a huge crush on one of them, Jordan. While reluctantly going on this “date,” she realizes that this isn’t Jordan, but rather, it’s Joshua. Why are the twins doing a switch? She goes along with it for a while, mainly because the sparks are flying hot and heavy between them. But Joshua soon admits the ruse and the two agree to a date for real. While he claims he has left Dallas, the city he has lived and worked in for years, Layla can’t help but wonder if he will soon tire of the laidback lifestyle in Royal. But Layla is soon distracted when her family is faced with a dilemma that could wipe out their family fortune. A man has filed a lawsuit claiming that his deceased mother is the rightful heir to part of their land.

It's a return for readers to Royal, Texas, and the Texas Cattleman’s Club in the latest series and book. The Grandin family is one of the oldest and richest families in Maverick County, but their stature could dimmish if the lawsuit is successful. Layla is the middle daughter and doesn’t expect to inherit any of the land, but it is her family’s birthright. Meanwhile, her relationship with Joshua heats up, and they find themselves making love. He indicates he wants more from their fling, but will he soon tire of living in Royal? What Layla doesn’t know is that Joshua wants to return to Royal and build a new life there. Yet, he can’t communicate this to her, especially with her family drama going on that divides her attention.

In STAKING A CLAIM, we get a glimpse of the other characters who will likely appear in future stories. All four Grandin siblings are single, plus they have a close relationship with the Lattimore family and their numerous children. How will the lawsuit play out? Is there a valid claim and if so, will a compromise be made? But the heart (and heat) of this tale is the brewing romance between Layla and Joshua. It’s clear they care for each other but is it enough to build a future together?

Spend time with Layla and Joshua in STAKING A CLAIM and watch them weave through the tangled vines of their romance. Will they work it out so that they can be together? Don’t miss this sizzling tale.
