The secret about Miranda MacDonnell's mother is out after Miranda warns other pilgrims at a shrine that English soldiers are coming. Her mother sees the future in visions, and Miranda does what she can to prevent the dangers her mother sees. But this time, saving the lives of all the pilgrims lets an evil man know that Muirne MacDonnell, wife of the laird of Tarbert Castle, is the possessor of the fourth and last piece of the stone amulet he seeks. He's the villainous Sir Ralph Evers who has wreaked death and destruction on his path through Scotland searching for the pieces he needs to give him unexcelled power. He has three of the four that had been scattered fifty years ago, each granting its possessor a unique power . . . one to see the past, one to heal, and the fourth to see the future. (He already possessed the ability to call up the spirits of the dead.)

Miranda's mother did not live long after the massacre at the shrine. Before she died, she gave the stone to Miranda, told her what she could see of her future, and sent her away for safety. It wasn't long before Miranda knew her mother was gone, for she now has the power that was Muirne's in life.

Rob Hawkins, privateer and captain of the Peregrine , has been sent by Henry Tudor, fighting in France, to find the Englishman, Sir Ralph Evers . . . and kill him.

It won't be long before Rob (known as The Black Hawk) and Miranda meet, though she's masquerading as male. That doesn't mean she need trust him. However, she risks her own life to save his during a wild storm at sea when she foresees him in danger.

And that's only the beginning of their adventures!

TEMPEST IN THE HIGHLANDS carries on where MUCH ADO ABOUT HIGHLANDERS and TAMING THE HIGHLANDER leave off. We meet again the two previous caretakers of pieces of the relic that have been handed down mother to daughter for generations. Unfortunately, they lost their stones to Evers, though they both found love. The two pairs play important parts in this tale, and it gets really exciting as the whole comes to a breathtaking conclusion.
