Sous chef Karina Mistry hopes to be given the newly opened position of head chef after years of working at the restaurant. But she is called into the office to be informed that she will be competing in a reality show for the position, and her competitor will be none other than Aneel Rawai. Karina just found out that Aneel also works for her employer at a different restaurant, and both want the head chef job here. Six years ago, they competed against one another for a cash prize, but she lost when her dessert melted, and she blamed Aneel for losing by claiming he unplugged the refrigerator. Now he is standing in front of her and is the only barrier to her getting the coveted job. The competition starts off pretty good, but Karina and Aneel soon see a different side to each other. They start helping each other as they work together in the restaurant, and outside of it, as she has a catering business in her off-work hours. They find that they work well together and get to know one another better. Karina is a single mom of a four-year-old boy, while Aneel lives with his sister, whom he has raised since their father left, and their mother died. As they grow closer, they start to have feelings for each other. But the chef competition and their past hang over them. IF YOU CAN’T STAND THE HEAT… is an interesting tale. Both Karina and Aneel are big on families and have lots of responsibilities. They also love their jobs cooking. But the past keeps coming to the surface. Karina’s ex-husband abandoned her before her son was born, but now, he’s back. Aneel’s absent father shows up on his doorstep and wants to mend their relationship. Add in that each has sisters who think they know what’s best for Karina and Aneel, then they are feeling the pressure. But they manage to spend time together and enjoy it. Can they ignore the outside noise and build a future together? A sweet and emotional tale filled with scenes about food and family.
