This is an important book not only for the preteens who it was written for but also for adults. It explains the many important functions trees bestow on our home planet. Too many people think of trees as just plants – important to humans only for the food they provide, or the products made from them. Trees do provide food, and many products are made from wood, but as this book points out, trees do far more and are not the unintelligent lifeforms many believe them to be. Trees have intelligence but one different from humans and one hard to recognize. Botanists have discovered it, but it remains unknown to most people. Trees, also known as the Earth's lungs, play a crucial part in creating a livable environment for all humans on Earth.

The book's shortness (52 pages) makes reading easy. The pages include beautiful images, trivia questions about trees, and side-notes related to the page's text, all of which add interesting information. Its message is so important I urge everyone to read it.
