Historical Fiction

Mendol, Oklahoma - 1954

Bailey Dowery is a dressmaker at the Regal Gown Shop in downtown Mendol. Her employer, Miss Jackson, wants Bailey to keep her mind on her work, and avoid any small talk with the white customers. As a Black woman, Bailey is aware of what is expected of her. But locals have heard about her special ability to predict love and romance for others, and some customers come in begging for her thoughts.

Bailey, however, is very careful to deny the ability, or to simply reply that she sees nothing. She does, though, see quite a bit when she touches someone with her bare hands. It isn't until future bride Elsa Grimes, daughter of a prominent oil company family comes in for a fitting, that Bailey must start to deal with her gift.

Elsa is expected to be married to Niles Porter, the son of her father's Senate Oil partner. But Elsa loves someone else, and she's miserable. Plus, she has a dark secret that she's trying to come to grips with, and her wedding is the last thing she wants right now. Elsa is hoping that Bailey will help her by letting her know about the person she will truly love. Elsa's mother, Ingrid, is determined to marry her daughter off and be done with her, letting Niles handle her.

Bailey's Aunt Charlene, with whom she lives, has her own secrets, but her heart is in the right place. She's determined to do her best for her niece, even if it means keeping those secrets from her.

The lives in the small town of Mendol are linked by many things, but rumors, gossip, and actions rule. In a time of change in the country, Bailey is finding out that her special talents, besides dressmaking, are giving her both good news and bad to deal with. What will happen with Elsa? Can she keep her secrets safe? Will Charlene's past come back to haunt her? And will a tragic event change everything for everyone?

Do not miss THE SECRET KEEPER OF MAIN STREET. It is amazing.
