After having to shut down her late grandmother’s bookstore, Belle Langfords needs a job. She spots an advertisement for a live-in nanny position in rural Oregon and applies. She gets the job and travels to her job, only to be met with puzzlement by the father of the three kids, Adam Winchester. Turns out the children’s grandmother got tired of being tied down watching the children and hired Belle without his knowledge. Adam isn’t happy about the situation but agrees to give Belle a tryout. 

In ONCE UPON A COWBOY, Belle is thrown to the wolves metaphorically speaking as Adam doesn’t want her there and the children are an unruly trio, especially the boys. The children’s mother walked out on the family and the effects can still be felt. After the boys locked her in the pantry within a few days of her arrival, Belle is soon winning the kids over. Too bad she can’t say the same thing about their father. Adam is distrustful of Belle, but mostly because he feels a simmering attraction to her. Getting involved with Belle would be wrong as he feels that he is damaged goods. She deserves better. But Belle feels differently about the situation… 

ONCE UPON A COWBOY is the kickoff short story to the Four Corners Ranch series by Maisey Yates. Belle and Adam spend most of the story circling around each other not wanting to admit the attraction.
