In less than six months, the Scorpius bacterium has wiped out 99% of the population of the United States.  In less than six months, the Scorpius bacterium has wiped out 99% of the population of the United States. The survivors either never contracted the illness, or lived through the fever and are now carriers, or survived the fever and are now insane. As the world crumbled around them, Delta Force soldier Jax Mercury stepped up to protect those he could. Overtaking a food distribution center in the middle of what was once one of the worst areas of Los Angeles, Jax built a home base and will protect his people at any cost. As the head of infectious diseases at the CDC, Lynne Harmony was on the original team investigating Scorpius, until she was infected.  An experimental serum saved her life, but the team was unable to recreate the serum.  After months of being locked up at the CDC, Lynne escaped and made her way across the country, in hopes of finding two things: a secret lab that may hold the secret to stopping Scorpius if not curing it, and Jax Mercury.

It's a grim and scary world in MERCURY STRIKING, the first book in the Scorpius Syndrome series.  Before the CDC could get a handle on the unknown bacterium, it had spread beyond the point of possible containment, and now, six months later, the country is decimated.  Food is scarce, electricity is non-existent, and survival is the only thing that matters. Jax left behind a street gang to join the military where he became a Special Forces soldier.  Now that he is back, he's gathered together a group of mostly civilians and is doing his best to protect them.  He is sure that Lynne Harmony is the key to curing Scorpius, so he agrees to help her in exchange for her sharing her knowledge and research.  Lynne is the most wanted woman in the country; she's been on the run since escaping the CDC, and she has some pretty dangerous secrets that she's hiding from Jax.  The secret lab she's looking for may have information to help slow the spread of Scorpius, but she's not the only one looking for it.

Romance is the last thing anybody is looking for in this post-apocalyptic world, but that's exactly what Jax and Lynne unexpectedly find.  More importantly, they find hope in the heart-breaking and harsh new world in the fascinating MERCURY STRIKING.
