Contemporary Romance Saugatuck, Wyoming –
Present Day
Autumn Daniels never thought she would return to
the small town of Saugatuck, but here she is, nine years later
and pregnant, after the death of her husband three months ago.
Autumn’s father is the mayor of the small town; Autumn is
a veterinarian. She remembers her wild teen years and never wanted
to return and run into the man she fell in love with all those
years ago.
During a storm, Autumn is in the grocery store when
the lights go out, and she accidentally runs into someone with
her grocery cart. She apologizes, and a deep, sexy voice responds.
Unable to see each other, they get into a conversation in the
dark store, and when he asks her if he could show her the town,
she surprises herself by accepting. When the lights come on, it
is a shock to discover that the man she has been talking to is
Matt Kinsey, a person she definitely did not want to see. They
had a love affair nine years ago that ended when he walked out
on her. They look at each other, and both back out of the date.
Matt remembers Autumn with bitterness after she left
town and married his best friend. Matt was dirt-poor in the old
days and didn’t think he measured up to Autumn and her family.
When Autumn comes to his ranch looking for a job, Matt hires her
as the ranch veterinarian. The very air sizzles between them.
Determined to stay out of her way, will the chemistry between
them be too strong to resist? And how will Matt feel when he finds
out she is pregnant and didn’t tell him?
WHAT LIES BETWEEN THEM is a romantic story of two
people caught up in misunderstandings, hurt, and anger. Although
it seems improbable that Autumn would accept a date from an unknown
man and ask for a job from a man she purports to dislike, nevertheless
the story is entertaining with a lot of sexual tension. Matt is
a nice guy who thought he wasn’t good enough for Autumn
nine years ago, and she thought he didn’t care enough. She
is impetuous and feisty, but wants to be steady and more of an
adult in order to raise her child. They both find it difficult
to stay away from each other because the attraction is so strong.
Readers will wish that Autumn would tell Matt about her pregnancy
so that it will not become another issue to separate them. Secondary
characters complement the story -- Autumn’s parents who
love and support her, and Matt’s friend, Chet, who becomes
a good friend to Autumn.
WHAT LIES BETWEEN THEM is a good choice for readers
who enjoy contemporary romance.
