Paranormal Romance Short Story

Earth and the Accipitridae Realm - Present Day

Sachin, assassin and adviser to the king of the Buteos Regalis (people of the Accipitridae realm who can take the form of birds), has always been somewhat fascinated by the wingless human women of Earth. He’s taken his pleasure with many of the women and has never thought of them as anything other than an itch he likes to scratch, until the day three years ago when he rescued a young woman named Paige.

Paige can’t wait to see Sachin again, the mysterious man who rescued her on the horrible night her mother was killed; he has claimed a piece of her soul for his own, he just doesn’t know it yet. It’s her birthday, and Paige has decided that she’s going to claim the best birthday gift any girl could ask for, Sachin.

It’s a dangerous time in his home realm, and the last thing Sachin needs is the distraction Paige offers. Besides, she’d probably never accept his true self, and surely his true mate can’t be wingless?

The second in the King of Prey series, A VIEW TO A KILL gives readers a story with passionate love, heartache, and an element of danger. Despite the fact that King Kabril took a human woman as his mate, Sachin finds it difficult to accept that his own mate is human. But there’s no denying Paige holds a special place in his heart, and avoiding her just seems to make him very grouchy, so grouchy that his queen orders him to clear up the matter. Paige loves Sachin and despite the strange dreams she has of Sachin with wings, she knows he’s the one for her. However, if he won’t admit to his feelings, she knows someone else who wants her for his own; maybe she’ll just have to take him up on his offer.

Despite the short length of this great story, readers are introduced to a few secondary characters of importance. Sarah adopted Paige after her mother was killed, and this wise and generous woman believes Sachin and Paige belong together. Queen Rayna is also a wise woman, and if it weren't for her, Sachin may have put off admitting his feelings until it was too late. Lazar is a defector from the Falco Peregrinus (enemies of Sachin’s people), who fits in with the Buteos Regalis quite well. I’m interested in learning more about him; hopefully the prolific Mandy M. Roth will find time to write Lazar’s story. Hint, hint. ;-)
