New York, Texas, and Vermont - Present Day

You might be tempted to think that the life of a supermodel is all glitz and glamour, but let me assure you, you’d be wrong. Take Lou Kinipski for example, the poor girl has big problems. Nope, it’s not finding the best dress to wear to a hot party. Try thinking bigger. How about turning wolfy in the midst of a shoot, said shoot occurring on a snowy rooftop in a bikini, as if those conditions aren’t bad enough by themselves. Now picture sexy detective Terry Shay showing up and asking questions about murdered women who happen to look very much like you. Mind you, the sexy part isn’t bad, but it’s not like Lou doesn’t already have her eyes on the photographer, Stefan O’Conner. Of course, good old Stefan can’t seem to keep it in his pants, so Lou hasn’t followed up on the chemistry between the two of them. Maybe Terry is her man, or then again, with her mysterious past that really doesn’t bear looking into, perhaps Lou should stay away from Terry...far, far, away. Then there’s the man who’s suddenly shown up and is following Lou. Is he connected to the murders, or is Lou just imagining things because of Terry? Oh, and I should probably mention that Lou just hired Morgan Kane, a P.I. and band member, to find her birth parents. Yep, you get the picture now, life as a supermodel is anything but easy, at least for Lou.

CONFESSIONS OF A WEREWOLF SUPERMODEL is a great read, filled with characters that you will love meeting and circumstances that are anything but normal. Werewolves aren’t the only unusual creatures roaming the streets of New York y’know. Lou came from an adoptive home where she never really felt loved, more like tolerated. Luckily, she had a good friend named Cindy who kept her sane and even went so far as to move with her to New York when she left Texas. Granted, Cindy had some family issues of her own that helped her make that decision, but still, she did it. Lou isn’t one of those adopted kids who yearn to find their birth parents, what she’s really interested in is finding out why she’s a werewolf; it must be genetic because there was never an encounter in the woods with something furry that bit her. Nope, all it took was an attack by an ordinary high school boy on prom night to bring out the beast in Lou. That was also the night that Lou suddenly developed into a beauty and high tailed it out of Texas. Apparently, werewolves need to be attractive, probably so they can get close to their “prey.” Luckily, the new good looks did give Lou the ability to get a high paying career and hide in plain sight. Nobody from her past would dream that Lou was once ugly ole Sherry.

I love books where the primary character isn’t the only one who’s fully developed and interesting. This is one of those books. Cindy is a lesbian make-up artist (remember the family problems? her dad is a minister). She lives right next door to Lou and serves as both a friend and mother figure; she’s also the only one who knows that Lou turns wolfy. Stefan is the one who discovered Lou, and I really believe he loves her. However, Stefan doesn’t try too hard to resist the temptations all around, what man would, come on, they’re supermodels. I know, true love should overcome, but then maybe that’s the problem, maybe it’s not true love. Terry is not just sexy, he’s protective, loyal, and interested in spending time with Lou. No, not just because she’s gorgeous, he really seems to “get” her, of course, who knows how he’d react to the beast that she can become. Karen and Natasha are fellow supermodels; Karen’s a good friend, and Natasha, well, let’s just say the girl needs to learn to be discreet about her liaisons, sleeping with Stefan and bragging about it...not a good idea. Morgan initially turns Lou off, his office is a mess and his look is so, well, unprofessional. Nipple ring, cowboy boots, and longish hair just don’t seem like the image he should project, but, he is in a band, so, maybe if he’d just stop referring to Lou as “cupcake.” And really, in his own way, Morgan is attractive, not that Lou’s interested, I mean, aren’t Terry and Stefan enough?

CONFESSIONS OF A WEREWOLF SUPERMODEL was intended to be the start in a new series from Ronda Thompson; unfortunately, she was taken from this world too soon, so there are some threads in this book that we’ll never see come to fruition. However, that’s not to say that you should avoid reading it. One of the major plot points in this book does get fully resolved and you’ll enjoy the ride while it lasts.
