Paranormal Romance
New York City and Los Cielos – 1912
Located in the Pyrenees Mountain chain, Los Cielos
was once a thriving, fertile place. Sibling rivalry over inheritance
of the throne turned it into a wasteland. Out of its ashes came
a prophecy. The day would come when direct descendants of the
feuding sisters would marry and restore peace and prosperity.
Lita, born Princess Elizabelita Innocente Concepcion
Margarita de Los Cielos, has problems accepting that it is her
destiny to be one-half of the couple who will bring order back
to Los Cielos. When her parents die, she is left in the care of
Professor Charles Van Worton and his sister, Ermangarde St. Just.
When she is five, Lita meets her betrothed, Prince Emmanuel Alberto
Carlos de Veritas. Sometime after, she receives a strange letter
from him followed by the news that he has perished. His younger
brother, Estaban Eduardo Mateo de Veritas, is next in line and
expects Lita to still honor the betrothal.
When she is almost twenty-one, a missive summoning
her to Los Cielos arrives. Lita assumes it is from Estaban and
resigns herself to her fate. With Ermangarde as her chaperone,
she sets off for Los Cielos.
Unknown to Lita, there is a third prince, Eduardo
Mateo Carlos de Veritas. He has been charged with watching Princess
Elizabelita. He is certainly not prepared for his reaction to
her. He is hesitant to reveal his true identity to her and gets
to know Lita on the long voyage from America to their destination.
Somewhere along the way, the two fall in love and
begin to wish that Lita was free to follow her heart. When information
reaches them that Estaban has located the magical Key of Earth
that is supposed to unlock the secrets of bringing Los Cielos
back to life, both Lita and Eduardo start to question the validity
of the prophecy, which says that only the princess can use it.
Mysterious Black Monks and other unexpected allies
meet up with Lita and Eduardo as they try to make sense of all
the clues and puzzles that they encounter. Many surprises await
them, including some rather unsettling ones. With their growing
love for each other, how will they bear to separate when the time
comes for Lita to commit her life to Estaban.
Michelle L. Levigne has penned an intriguing tale
of suspense and romance laced liberally with magic and danger,
and readers are kept guessing as to the outcome. There are many
twists and turns and characters who present themselves as friends,
but are actually foes. I would tell more about the other characters,
but that would give away too much of plot. The climax of LOS CIELOS
is well worth the time to read all the sometimes complex, detailed
storyline. I recommend it.
