| PREDATORY GAME – Christine Feehan Ghostwalker Series, Book 6 Jove ISBN: 978-0-515-14428-4 March 2008 Paranormal Romance Wyoming – Present Day Though Saber Wynter feels safe for the first time in her life, she knows it can’t last. Jess Calhoun’s home has become a sanctuary, but she can’t let herself become complacent. Saber is a highly trained assassin and, though she’s left that world far behind, she knows the men who trained her are still looking for her. But it feels so good to laugh and relax for the first time in her life, with a man, a friend, who makes her feel protected. Though he lost the use of his legs during his last assignment, Jess Calhoun is still a Ghostwalker through and through. He doesn’t know much about Saber, but he is willing to overlook it because of the depth of his attraction. Then again, when it becomes clear that Saber is much more than he expected, possibly one of the women experimented on by the psychotic Peter Whitney, Jess knows that he can’t back away from digging into her past. Has she been sent to spy on him and his investigation? But someone else is also interested in Saber, and soon the entire Ghostwalker team is involved as they try to figure out what is going on. As they slowly move from friends to lovers, Saber and Jess have to decide whom they can trust, especially when it becomes clear they both have secrets. One thing is certain, though, they’d both take a bullet for the other. Christine Feehan books are guaranteed to have interesting characters, engaging plots, unexpected paranormal capabilities, entertaining action, and a sizzling romance, and PREDATORY GAME is no exception. Though Saber is quite capable, her petite frame and fear of the dark bring out all of Jess's protective instincts. While he would have been interested in starting a relationship from the first day he opened the door to her knock, Jess knew her skittishness would have sent her running if he had made any overtures. But times and circumstances have changed, and the fire simmering between them grows into a conflagration with but a tiny breath of interest. The only question that remains is can they trust each other? Returning for brief appearances are Lily and Ryland Miller (SHADOW GAME), Ken and Mari Norton (DEADLY GAME), and a few other Ghostwalker friends who still await their own stories. Though PREDATORY GAME is definitely Saber and Jess’s story, two themes that tie each book into the series, that of the breeding program and political corruption, continue. To understand the background of the plot, it is highly recommended that readers enjoy the books in order. Fans of the Ghostwalker series will not be disappointed by this latest addition. PREDATORY GAME is another entertaining addition to the genre and should not be missed. Kathy Samuels |
