LADY EMELINE’S REMEDY- Cynthia
Moore Cerridwen Press ISBN: 978-1-41991-172-9 September 2007 Regency Romance London, England - 1820 Damon Ashby, Earl of Manderly has a near perfect life. He has looks, money, and loyal friends. He enjoys London and all it has to offer. But one day when Damon is riding in his new curricle, he has an accident and breaks one of his legs. And even though the doctor has done the best he could under the circumstances, Damon has a limp and is in constant pain. He hides away at his country estate, depressed that his former life is now over. How will he ever be able to ride a horse or carouse with his friends again? Lady Emeline Spenser knows Damon all too well. One night at a ball, Damon kissed Emeline in a dark room thinking she was another woman. Emeline has never forgotten the young earl, but instead of pining for him, she has had more pressing matters to deal with. Her father, Lord Quentin, who was an expert in massage treatments, has died, and Emeline wants to take over where her father has left off. Emeline and Damon see each other again at another masked ball, and Emeline volunteers her skills to help him with his leg pain. Damon soon becomes Emeline’s patient, and when he is attacked by some ruffians, he must stay in Emeline’s house to recover; of course, with Damon’s aunt as chaperone. Soon Damon makes a full recovery because of Emeline’s bedside manner. He can no longer deny he has fallen for this unique spinster and hopes Emeline will consent to be more than just his doctor. LADY EMELINE’S REMEDY is the perfect Regency romance, especially for teens and young adults. Even though this is not a young adult novel, it reads like one with minimal lovemaking, basically just hand holding and some sweet kisses. I guess you could say this is just a sweet story overall. Damon and Emeline are wonderful characters, and I especially liked Emeline’s hobby, or rather, her career. It was very different and educational. Most of the time Damon and Emeline were simply happy talking to each other and finding ways to make Damon comfortable. Cynthia Moore has written an engaging, lighthearted romance that should appeal to anyone at any age. Kate Garrabrant |
