Millsboro, Delaware – the Present

An incident in Casey McDaniel's past makes her good at her job as victim’s advocate at Sussex County Hospital. She is devastated when Linda, one of her clients, calls her in the middle of the night. The woman’s abusive ex-boyfriend is there, and the woman is terrified he will kill her. Casey tells her what to do, calls 911, and jumps in her car to go help. Both she and the police are too late: Linda is dead.

Due to a glitch in the evidence, Linda's boyfriend, Charlie Gaitlin, is released. Prosecuting Attorney Adam Preston assures Casey it is a temporary reprieve for Gaitlin. Casey is outraged. In the courthouse parking lot she suffers through a confrontation with Gaitlin before his new girl friend whisks him away. Something he said in those few minutes leads Casey to believe he is stalking her to intimidate her against testifying against him. Casey’s father is suffering dementia and lives with Casey. He insists he is seeing Richard Nixon staring in the house windows. Her sister isn’t much help. Casey’s life is complicated further when Lincoln Tyndall, another lawyer, enters her life.

Intertwined in Casey’s narrative is a very twisted character. Someone who commits crimes for the thrill and because he knows he can get away with it. As he graduates to murder, Casey becomes a part of his plan.

If you’re looking for nail-biting suspense, you can’t do better than DON’T TURN AROUND. Casey, her father and his confusion, her sister, Lincoln, Adam, and of course Charlie Gaitlin, come to life within the twists and horror of author Hunter Morgan’s deftly written story. Readers will easily empathize with Casey and her problems. She is patient with her father and sister, but beneath her sympathetic demeanor is one tough woman willing to stand up for not only herself, but also for others. DON’T TURN AROUND gives an all-around enjoyable reading experience.
