When Justin Brandt gets a call from his best friend Turk, he knows that this time there will be trouble. There have been plenty of times when Justin’s helped Turk’s sister Ava out of a jam, but she’s never known about it. In fact, Justin and Ava haven’t spoken since the day after they almost slept together, when Justin told Ava that he was marrying another -- pregnant -- woman. But Ava’s latest case as an Assistant District Attorney is close to blowing Turk’s cover and jeopardizing the case he’s been building with the DEA. Two close friends get a second chance at making more of their relationship in BEYOND HIS CONTROL. Though it’s been nine years since they’ve seen each other, it doesn’t take long for Ava and Justin to realize that they still have a lot in common, including the desire they feel for each other. It’s not just the past that stands between them though; Ava’s father was in the military, then the DEA, and after watching her mother suffer through her father’s deployments and missions, Ava swore she’d never get involved with a man with that type of job.

There’s a secondary story involving Ava’s brother, Turk/Leo, and a social worker friend of Ava’s named Callie. Readers also get a chance to see what’s happening with Rina and Cash (RISKING IT ALL) and Carly and Hunt (COMING UNDONE). While Justin is a teammate of the heroes of the earlier books, it’s not necessary to have read the previous stories, as this one is all about Justin and Ava.
