To exorcise the demons of her past, librarian Ariel Swanson writes
a fictional book about vampires. Though they have been extinct for
twenty-five years, the book causes quite a stir, and there are accusations
that Ariel is fond of the monsters. The controversy shocks her, but
nothing could have prepared her for the nightmare her life is plunged
into when she gives a television interview. Kidnapped by a stranger
with superhuman strength, Ariel quickly learns vampires aren’t
as extinct as the world believes them to be.
Jachin Black is stunned when he reads the prophecy in Ariel’s
book. An elder of the Sanguinas clan foretold of the human who would
be the vampire’s salvation, but only the vampire clan knew of
this prophecy. So how is it that Ariel writes it into her book, word
for word? Believing that her knowledge means she is the woman in the
prophecy, Jachin is determined to bring her to his clan, not only
to help his people, but also in the hopes of having his banishment
lifted. He’s spent years despising humans as weak and inferior,
yet Jachin can’t help but admire Ariel’s spirit. As much
as he desires her though, Jachin knows he can never have the woman
destined to be not only the salvation of the vampires, but their leader’s
mate.
Patrice Michelle has created a harsh yet intriguing world with SCIONS:
RESURRECTION, the first novel in her new trilogy. Jachin was banished
from his clan, and after spending so many years on his own, feels
that he has lost his humanity. He clings to the prophecy as the means
of saving himself as well as his people. Violence cost Ariel everything,
and she has spent her life looking over her shoulder, afraid of the
vampires responsible for the loss of her family. She hopes that writing
about them will rid her of her fears, but instead it brings them to
life. Both have their reasons for being distrustful, yet they will
need to depend on each other in order to survive.
Secondary characters include Landon, a werewolf who has an uneasy
truce with Jachin; Mira, Jachin’s sister; and various members
of the vampire clan, both friend and foe. A captivating tale, SCIONS:
RESURRECTION should not be missed, and I look forward to reading the
rest of the trilogy.
